So when I found out, surprise, I’m pregnant, the honey badger instincts set in again. I told my husband I was pregnant like any honey badger mom would do, by throwing the test at him and following it up with, “I’m pregnant. I’m quitting my job, I’m keeping the nanny, and renovating the kitchen.”  That was Christmas Day 2013. I didn’t waste a minute.  As soon as the holidays were finished I had contractors lined up to give me bids.  I decided on one, and started the complete gutting of my mother-in-law’s kitchen in February 2014.  It was finished by May that year, in time for my oldest daughters 4th birthday party.
I did most of the designing for the kitchen. I designed the layout, the cabinets, I picked the fixtures, hardware colors, surfaces and stayed on budget.  My main goal for the kitchen was to expand it and open up the back room to give more light in, hide appliances as much as possible, add color and update it, but keep it loyal to the old colonial country charm of the home.
